Pickleball and Active Adults – Staying Active and Engaged at Chambers Creek

  • September 26, 2023

If you find yourself skillfully poaching shots, strategizing your third shot drops, or aiming to sneakily place a dink right into your opponent’s kitchen, then you’re probably a pickleball player! If you’ve never played before, you’ll discover it’s an incredibly fun game that’s easy to play and easy to learn, and you’ll reap the many health benefits of pickleball for active adults. We have more great news for you: Pickleball is coming to Chambers Creek!

Believe it or not, pickleball is not a new sport. Even though it seems to be everywhere these days, pickleball was actually invented in 1965 by three dads from Bainbridge Island, Washington. While they were looking for a way to entertain their kids during the summer, they came up with a game similar to tennis that used ping-pong paddles and a plastic ball.

What are the benefits of pickleball for active adults?

Today, pickleball is more than just a sport; it’s a thriving social community of over 35 million players in the U.S. Pickleball is particularly popular among active adults. And why not? Its unique blend of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong or table tennis provides many of the same health benefits as other sports.

Pickleball’s popularity can be traced to its ease of play, the way that it caters to players of all skill levels, and the many health benefits that it offers, especially for active adults who may want to avoid overexertion or have concerns that limit mobility or reduce the opportunity for high-impact exercise. Ultimately, pickleball is a great workout that’s also easy on your bones and joints. What could be better?

You won’t even notice that you’re getting a full-body workout, improving your cardiovascular fitness, increasing muscle strength and flexibility, and even improving hand-eye coordination and balance. You’ll just be in the zone, having a great time and getting a great workout!

Playing pickleball is a fun part of an active lifestyle.

Sure, the health benefits of pickleball are undeniable, but that’s just part of its appeal. Pickleball is also a lot of fun, and it’s easy to pick up and learn.

For the millions of pickleball players all over the country, pickleball is more than just a sport or an opportunity for some healthy exercise. It’s a hobby and a community. It’s a way to get to know your neighbors, a great activity that you can do with your friends, and a perfect way to meet new people who share a passion for active living. After all, part of a healthy lifestyle includes taking care of your mental well-being and your sense of community and connectivity, too.

Chambers Creek is adding pickleball and tennis courts!

Maybe we’re guilty of burying the lede a little bit here, but we’re just so excited about the many benefits of pickleball for active adults that we couldn’t wait to share a few of them. Here’s the big news, though: Chambers Creek residents will soon be able to hit the court and poach a few shots on our four brand-new pickleball courts and two tennis courts!
